L’EP è accompagnato da due remix d’eccezione e un video che su Nicchia Elettronica mostriamo in anteprima. Abbiamo scambiato qualche parola con Andrew Claristidge e David Naville, rispettivamente il direttore artistico e il fondatore-manager dell’etichetta, per farci raccontare di Ecitatissimo, della visione di Thisbe e dei progetti futuri.

Ciao David e Andrew, è un piacere fare questa chiacchierata con voi. La vostra ultima pubblicazione (Eccitatissimo) coinvolge due dj e produttori di lunga data, Jerry Bouthier e Plaisir de France. Com’è nata la collaborazione con loro?
Andrew Claristidge (direttore artistico di Thisbe Recordings): Ho incontrato Jerry tempo fa al Madame Jojo di Londra per lo show di un mio vecchio progetto chiamato Sex In Dallas & Biladol. Da allora le nostre strade si sono incrociate regolarmente e sono molto fiero di poterlo definire un amico. L’anno scorso, quando mi sono unito a Thisbe Recordings come direttore artistico, era abbastanza ovvio pubblicare musica degli amici. Quando abbiamo ricevuto Eccitatissimo abbiamo deciso immediatamente di pubblicarlo su Thisbe.
David Naville (aka Pyrame) (fondatore e manager di Thisbe Recordings): Eccitatissimo è una traccia che Andrew mi ha consigliato nel 2021 e per me è stato amore al primo ascolto. In seguito abbiamo parlato molto con Jerry Bouthier e Plaisir de France riguardo all’uscita e a cosa potevamo fare insieme. Ed eccoci qui: Eccitatissimo EP, con due mix di Jerry Bouthier e Plaisir de France, due remix di Agle e Outtake, una radio edit e un video musicale, è finalmente fuori.
L’EP vede anche la partecipazione di due remixer d’eccezione, Agle e Outtake. Il disco è un omaggio alla scena disco/new wave/punk degli anni ’80. Inutile da dire, il marchio di fabbrica di Thisbe.
Andrew: Due grandi remixer! Entrambi con il proprio stile. Ho già suonato parecchio i loro remix. In effetti quasto EP può essere inteso come un tributo alla scena disco/new wave/punk degli anni ’80, ma penso che abbiamo abbia una declinazione molto moderna, specialmente la dinamica.
David : Assolutamente. Andrew e io siamo entrambi “figli” della New Wave anni ’80, insieme ad altre tendenze arrivate in seguito. Amiamo entrambi i remix di Agle e Outtake e si integrano molto bene con le tracce originali – il Climax Mix e il 7th Heaven Mix. Grazie al video di Christian Krüger della Radio Edit e il meraviglioso artwork di Andrew, crediamo che Eccitatissimo sia una release davvero forte.
Nonostante sia un’etichetta relativamente giovane, Thisbe ha già visto numerose pubblicazioni (con contributi eccellenti come quelli di Arnaud Rebotini o Theus Mago), quasi tutte stampate su vinile. Cosa vi ha spinto a dare vita all’etichetta e come può essere definita la vostra vision?
David: Esatto. Ho fondato la mia etichetta due anni fa per pubblicare il mio secondo EP (Pyrame – The Pace of Everything that Lives). Poi è iniziato un dialogo con alcuni artisti, come Radial Gaze di San Pietroburgo e Semodi di Berlino. Al tempo stavo anche parlando con Theus Mago che ha prodotto dei remix killer sia per l’EP di Radial Gaze “Redifined” che per quello di Semodi “Next Summer”. Da allora la palla ha continuato a rotolare in maniera molto naturale. Un anno fa ho assunto Andrew per sviluppare ulteriormente il nostro catalogo viste le sue esperienza, onoscenza, in particolare del mondo dei vinili, e rete. Lui ha coinvolto artisti quali Arnaud Rebotini, Jerry Bouthier & Plaisir de France e Danton Eeprom. Inutile dire che siamo anche grandi amici e che condiviamo la stessa passione per la musica elettronica, i vinili ben confezionati e il suonare musica stupenda nel dancefloor.
Andrew: Vero! Quasi tutte stampate in vinile 😉 Beh, abbiamo stampato tutto su vinile finora perchè amiamo questo formato, ma ci stiamo adattando al mercato che cambia e ai nuovi formati, come il digitale. Penso che la nostra vision sia scoprire della grande musica per il dancefloor che abbia sempre profondità, dinamica e grande musicalità.
Eccitatissimo è accompagnato anche dal video di Christian Krueger dal chiaro retrogusto vintage. Quanto è importante accompagnare alle uscite la componente visiva?
Andrew: La componente visiva è essenziale. In Thisbe poniamo grande attenzione al design grafico, alle clip etc. Siamo molto felici di lavorare con Christian Krueger che è davvero talentuoso.
David: Ho lavorato con Christian per diversi anni. Per esempio lui ha prodotto i video musicali delle quattro tracce originali del mio EP “The Pace of Everything that Lives”. Inutile dire che sono sempre entusiasta di coinvolgerlo quando è il momento. Quando gli abbiamo chiesto di produrre un video per Eccitatissimo, ha accettato subito. Ci sono altri suoi lavori in arrivo nel prossimo futuro.
State lavorando ad altri progetti? Quali sono i vostri obiettivi come etichetta per i prossimi mesi/anni?
David: Il nostro obiettivo è continuare a pubblicare la musica degli artisti che amiamo, lavorare alla parte grafica dell’etichetta (per esempio stiamo lavorando alla colonna sonora di un film di Christian Krueger prodotto da me che includerà musica pubblicata sull’etichetta), incrementare gli show dell’etichetta con altri Dj e coinvolgere altri artisti a pubblicare su Thisbe Recordings.
Andrew: Sì, stiamo lavorando su tanti progetti e posso dirti che il calendario del 2023 è già pieno. La nostra prossima uscira sarà il nuovo EP di David come Pyrame e includerà i remix di Arnaud Rebotini e Inigo Vonthier. Abbiamo anche un Ep di Nomenklatür e un altro di Volta Cab in arrivo presto.

Hello David and Andrew, it is good to have this chat with you. Your latest release (Eccitatissimo) involves the two long-time djs and producers Jerry Bouthier & Plaisir De France. How was born the partnership with them?
Andrew Claristidge (Artist Director at Thisbe Recordings): I met Jerry long time ago at Madame Jojo in London for a gig of an old project of mine called Sex In Dallas & Biladol. Since then our ways crossed regularly and I am quite proud to be able to call him a friend. Last year when I joined Thisbe Recordings as Artistic Director it was quite obvious to release music from friends. When we received « Eccitatissimo” we decided right away to release it on Thisbe.
David Naville (aka Pyrame) (Founder & Manager of Thisbe Recordings): Eccitatissimo is a track that Andrew suggested to me back in 2021, and it was love at first listening for me. We then talked a lot with Jerry Bouthier & Plaisir de France about the release, and what we can do together. And here we are: the Eccitatissimo EP, with two mixes by Jerry Bouthier & Plaisir de France, two remixes by Agle and Outtake, as well as Radio Edit and a music video, is finally out in this world.
The EP also features two notable remixers, Outtake and Agle. The release is a real tribute to the disco/new wave/punk scene of the 80’s. Needless to say, it’s THISBE’s trademark, isn’t it?
Andrew: 2 great remixers! They have both their own styles. I already played those remixes quite a lot. Indeed this EP could be understood as “a tribute to the disco/new wave/punk scene of the 80’s » but I think it has also a very modern angle especially the dynamics.
David : Absolutely. Andrew and I are both “children” of the 80s New Wave – among other trends that came later . We both really dug Agle and Outtake remixes and it really complements well the original tracks – the Climax Mix and the 7th Heaven Mix. With a music video by Christian Krüger of the Radio Edit of the Climax Mix and stunning artwork by Andrew himself, we believe “Eccitatissimo” is a very strong release all together.
Despite being a relatively young label, THISBE has already released several issues (with excellent contributions such as those of Arnaud Rebotini or Theus Mago) almost all printed on vinyl. How did you come to give life to the label, and how can your vision be defined?
David: Correct. I founded my own record label Thisbe Recordings 2 years ago, in order to release my second EP (Pyrame – The Pace of Everything that Lives). Then, a dialogue started with a couple of artists, such as Radial Gaze, in St-Petersburg, as well as Semodi, in Berlin. At that time, I was also talking with Theus Mago, who produced killer remixes for both Radial Gaze EP “Refined” as well as Semodi´s EP “Next Summer”. And the ball kept rolling very naturally from there. A year ago, I hired Andrew to further develop our catalogue, given his experience, knowledge – in particular, in the vinyls world – and network. He brought in artists of the likes of Arnaud Rebotini, Jerry Bouthier & Plaisir de France, Danton Eeprom. Needless to say, we are also very good friends and share the same passion for electronic music, well-crafted vinyls, and play awesome music on the dancefloor.
Andrew:true! almost all printed in vinyl 😉 Well yes we printed everything in vinyl until now because we love this format but as the market is changing we are adapting our game to new formats, digital… etc. I think our vision is to discover great dance floor music which always has depth, dynamic & great musicality.
Eccitatissimo is also accompanied by the video by Christian Krueger with a clearly vintage aftertaste. How important is the visual component to accompany the releases?
Andrew: The visual component is essential. At Thisbe we pay great attention to graphic design, clips… We are so happy to work with Christian Krueger who is extremely talented
David: Christian is someone I have been working with for several years now. For instance, he produced music videos for the 4 original tracks of my EP “The Pace of Everything that Lives”. Needless to say that I am always keen to involve him when it comes to pictures. When we asked him to produce a video for Eccitatissimo, he agreed to it straight away. There is more coming from him in the near future.
Are you working on other projects for the future? What are your goals with the label for the coming months/years?
David: Our goals is to keep releasing music from artists we love the music, to work on the pictures side of the label (for example, we are working on the soundtrack of a film by Christian Krüger that I am producing, including music released via the label), and to further roll with label shows and other DJ acts involving artists releasing on Thisbe Recordings.
Andrew: Yes we are working on many projects and I can tell you that 2023´s calendar is already full… Our next release will be David´s, releasing his new Pyrame EP including remixes by Arnaud Rebotini & Inigo Vonthier. We have also one EP by Nomenklatür & another by Volta Cab coming up soon.
